Last Week in the Project Space

The Project Space at Headlands Center for the Arts is the only part of the complex open for the public to look at art. It's not an exhbition place, per se, but a very large studio with an open door policy. The Project Space is open 5 days per week, from 12 to 5. I was invited to be the Project Space artist in August, 2005. It was a total honor to be invited to Headlands, and I took the open-to-the-public policy pretty seriously. Not only did I try to be friendly and eager to engage, I also published a weekly publication so I could share with visitors what they missed by not visiting sooner.

The publications were a blow-by-blow of days spent within the walls of the Project Space, the trials of dealing with an extremely fussy knitting machine, and of the mice running wild in the house. It also featured letters to the editor, a top 10 song list (of songs popular in the Project Space) and photos of goings-on around HCA. Last Week in the Project Space was distributed free of charge to visitors and staff in or near the Project Space.
